Welcome

Washington State University Extension and the Western States Mid-Managers Planning Committee welcome you to the beautiful Pacific Northwest for the 2009 Western States Extension Middle Managers Conference July 22-23. The conference will be held at the exclusive Semiahmoo Resort on the east shore of Puget Sound. Located near Bellingham, Washington and Vancouver British Columbia, the resort offers excellent meeting facilities and great recreation opportunities for you to get away from the pressures of work and enjoy the camaraderie that is unique to Extension professionals. The links on the adjacent navigation bar provides detailed information on accommodations, travel, dining, and things to do while you are our guest in Washington State.

In keeping with our long tradition of educating and serving people for more than 90 years, our theme for the conference is “Navigating Outreach and Engagement” in changing times. The 2009 conference will provide learning opportunities for engaging customers and communities, and adapting to their needs in a changing world. The navigation bar links on this site will provide you with “program details” as well as a “schedule at a glance” to assist you in reviewing this as a professional development opportunity. You may notice that the registration fee is higher than recent conferences; this is because all meals, including dinners and breaks, are included in the registration fee and cover a full two days for this year’s conference. The planning committee has added the extra half-day of content to increase the value of attending. Additionally, hotel room costs are lower than recent conference sites by about $20 per night.

Please note that in addition to the Middle Managers Conference, attendees will have optional choices to attend two additional events associated with the Western Regional Joint Summer Meeting of Deans and Directors prior to our conference. The first option is a symposium on July 20th with outstanding speakers on globalization, climate change, human health, and poverty. The second option offers a full-day tour on July 21st with stops related to fisheries, agriculture, and natural resources. Please evaluate these options for adding to your experience at this year’s conference. Additional registration fees for these options are priced for cost recovery of direct expenses of meals and transportation.

The planning committee hopes you will plan to join us for a great experience in Northwest Washington. Please use the “contact us” link to direct your questions.
