Welcome
Washington State University and our partner 1994 land-grant Northwest Indian
College are pleased to welcome you to the beautiful Pacific Northwest for the
2009 Western Region Joint Summer Meetings (WRJSM) July 19-22, 2009. The
conference will be held at the exclusive Semiahmoo Resort on the east shore of
Puget Sound. Located near Bellingham, Washington and Vancouver, British
Columbia, the resort offers excellent meeting facilities and great recreation
opportunities for you to get away from the pressures of work and enjoy the
camaraderie that is unique to Extension professionals. The links on the
adjacent navigation bar provides detailed information on accommodations,
travel, dining, and things to do while you are our guest in Washington State.
The 2009 conference will provide learning opportunities for engaging customers
and communities, and adapting to their needs in a changing world. The theme of
the meeting is Navigating the Maritime Environment: Food, Farms, and Fish.
The navigation bar links on this site will provide you with “program details” as
well as a “schedule at a glance” to assist you in reviewing this as a professional
development opportunity.
Additionally, hotel room costs are lower than recent conference sites by about
$20 per night.
A tour of agriculture and natural resources will be offered on Tuesday, July 21st.
For an additional registration fee, companions can join us on the ag tour. We will
conclude the tour at the NW Indian College with a meal of traditional foods of the
NW coast Salish Tribes including salmon. We are also extending an invitation for the
tour with stops related to fisheries, agriculture, and natural resources to the
Western States Extension Middle Managers. A selection of companion tours are being
offered for separate registration fee on Monday, July 20th. The companion tours will
depart and return to the Semiahmoo resort property. Additional registration fees for
these options are priced for cost recovery of direct expenses of meals and
transportation. Sign up early for tours as there will be maximum, or minimum numbers
to confirm tour offerings.
On behalf of the planning committee, we hope you will plan to join us for a great
experience in Northwest Washington.
Sincerely,
Linda Kirk Fox
